Contacting Member of Media 1200-1
Press Release 1200-2
TITLE: CONTACTING MEMBER OF MEDIA
This policy establishes the method that the news media will use to contact members of the RCMP
Media relations units.
A Complaint Taker who receives a call from a member of the news media enquiring regarding a press release, etc will be directed to call the on call Media Relations member at the number entered in CIIDS under Media !! and on the DOCC On Call list.
The Media Relations member will be responsible for call forwarding their office phone to their cell, residence or alternate contact number when not in their respective offices.
Should a situation develop and/or event occur that will obviously be of interest to the news media, DOCC should attempt to play a proactive role and contact a Media Relations member ASAP to provide a "heads-up". This proactivity will then defuse a possible later siege of phone calls to DOCC from the general news media.
A Complaint Taker or employee of DOCC Saskatchewan who receives an enquiry from the News media may confirm that we have indeed received a complaint and that our members have been or will be advised.
In the case of a serious MVA that the media is enquiring about, the call taker can confirm that we have received a report of the MVA, however, the call taker has no further information. If the media require anything further, refer them to the Media Relations member for the area.
TITLE: PRESS RELEASE
This policy will establish the method of disseminating a press release that DOCC may receive
from one of the Detachments in the Division.
The Detachments shall be advised to forward their press releases to their respective Media Relations officers.
If DOCC Saskatchewan receives a fax copy of a Press Release, forward the fax to F Division Community Services at fax 780-7386.
The Detachment concerned shall be advised that they should forward their requests to F Division Community Services and not DOCC Saskatchewan.
Refer to DOCC Saskatchewan SOP, Section 565.
